This quick epistolary novel tackles the Second World War in Guernsey combined with the characters’ love of literature. I found that the writing style for each character was distinct in their letters and it really helped me to separate them from each other without the need for an unrealistic amount of description.
The letters that tackled the events that happened during the war on the island and also in France were harrowing but realistically spoken about in the letter format. I think that these sections were hard-hitting and really added a lot to the characters’ personalities and experiences.
Overall I think that this book is a great mix between the literary correspondence in 84 Charing Cross Road and the real life traumas of the war and I would definitely recommend it.
