The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers

This book is like a fun fast-paced adventure children’s book but written for adults. Moers parodies pretty much every trope of the fantasy and science-fiction genres, creating a world that is bizarre and yet never too ridiculous as to lose your attention.

Although there was a slow section about two thirds of the way through this novel, I flew through this 700 page book in just a few days.

An element that is rarely seen in adult fiction and that really works in this book is the illustrations. They are cartoon-like and whimsical but set the tone of the story perfectly and I can’t imagine this book without them.

Overall I would highly recommend this book and I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series!

4 out of 5 stars!
