Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan

I picked this up at random in my library’s graphic novel section and I can’t believe there aren’t more people talking about it!

Tales from Outer Suburbia is a short story collection that uses art to enhance the story. It is not a graphic novel in the traditional sense of the term but there are graphic elements in each tale.

The artwork in this book is absolutely gorgeous; honestly it is some of the best I’ve ever seen. The way some stories are made up of collages, or displayed as a newspaper article, or laid out in a usual way but paired with stunning artwork, made this an absorbing read despite the brevity of the tales and it really is something to look out for.

5 out of 5 stars!
