Holy Cow by David Duchovny

Disclaimer: I received a hardback copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review from BookBridgr and Headline Publishing.

Going into this I had no idea what this story would entail and I’m glad of it. I flew through this within 24 hours and thoroughly enjoyed it. That’s not to say it is a perfect book but the witty style and the fantastical events that take place demand that you suspend your disbelief and just go with it until the end.

If George Orwell wrote the animated children’s film Chicken Run, Holy Cow would have been the result.

With sassy animal protagonists and clever commentary on humanity, this book really has something for everyone. I loved the characters and the way the book was written from Elsie the cow’s perspective. Her comedic take on the world and the way she was constantly commenting on how it should be turned into a screenplay or animated film really makes this a children’s book written for adults.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Pacing wise, it did get a little slow towards the end but on the whole, I would recommend this if you want a quick and fun read.

3 out of 5 stars!
