George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl

As a child Roald Dahl was one of my favourite authors and this book, as well as Matilda, was one of my favourites.

Reading it now, as an adult, I picked up on just how horrible the grandmother is in this story and it is surprising how reading this many years on gives such a different perspective on the story. Being a children’s novel, and a classic, the story starts immediately and keeps you gripped from start to finish.

I found myself remembering a lot of the lines and events from previous readings but it was fun to revisit the story. I was actually surpised at George’s actions, definitely not something you’d want a child to take inspiration from!

This is overall an extremely quick read of probably less than an hour for an older reader. It is a magical classic cautionary tale accompanied by amazing illustrations that makes a fun read for readers of any age.
